On behalf of the Australasian Fire Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC), I invite you to the 15th  annual AFAC Conference and Exhibition in Adelaide, South Australia. Our theme is “Fire, Environment & Society”. The conference program will offer a wide range of international, Australasian and local speakers. They will present on compelling issues that should not be missed and cannot be ignored. Fire, Environment and Society” will stimulate, inform and entertain you. For anyone who cares about improving the knowledge and practice involved with managing fires and emergencies, this is a “must do” conference. It is our aim to equip you, and our industry, to better face our future global challenges. The conference will also allow you to take advantage of the huge information exchange and the invaluable networking opportunities afforded by our industry’s major annual event for Australasia. This year, the inclusion of the Bushfire CRC’s International Bushfire Research conference makes it a truly international event. I am delighted to present a worldclass program of speakers, workshops and field trips for the benefit of the entire community.

I invite you to the first International Bushfire Research Conference of the Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre. This will be our fifth annual conference, held in conjunction with the AFAC Annual Conference, but this year the vision and the program is truly international. Fire, Environment and Society will be the theme for the week, reflecting the range If presentations from international and Australian speakers. This event is a great opportunity for the broader fire industry to see how leading researchers from around the world are working with industry partners on issues that have been identified as critical to their business. This conference is specifically aimed at researchers, practitioners, professionals and senior managers intent on understanding scientific research and best practice in the areas of wildfire management, urban fire and rescue, and wildland-urban interface issues. The week in Adelaide begins with a Bushfire CRC pre-conference workshop. It is structured to engage participants with open access to new and emerging research on some key issues for the industry – fire behaviour in rural and urban areas and
at the interface, fire fighter health and safety, and decision making in incident management teams. Join us in Adelaide in September for a program aimed at advancing the knowledge and practice of fire agencies, land managers, community safety practitioners, and researchers.
